Moving beyond standard mouthwash for better oral health?

I’ve spent years following the same dental routine: brushing twice a day, flossing, and using those harsh, alcohol-based mouthwashes that make your eyes water. Despite all that effort, my gums stayed tender and I felt like I was constantly fighting a losing battle against plaque buildup as I hit my fifties.

I finally decided to try a different approach after reading about oral microbiomes. I started using ProvaDent (usually discouted here) because it contains a BioFresh Complex and four strains of probiotics, which felt more logical than just killing all bacteria.

By week four, the “fuzzy” feeling on my teeth in the evenings was gone. After two months of ProvaDent, my dental hygienist actually asked what I’d changed because my gums looked much firmer. It’s not a miracle; it took about three months to really see the full benefits, and it’s definitely pricier than drugstore brands.

I like that ProvaDent uses organic xylitol and purple carrot instead of artificial dyes. It’s not a substitute for brushing, but for me, it filled the gap that traditional products missed. Just be patient if you try it—it’s a slow process.

I’ve been on ProvaDent for six weeks now. My morning breath is significantly better, which my wife definitely appreciates! It’s been a solid addition to my routine.

Interesting about the purple carrot ingredient. Does it stain your teeth at all, or is it just a concentrated extract for the nutrients?

I’m always a bit wary of these proprietary complexes. Is the cost really justified compared to just taking a standard probiotic supplement from the grocery store?

I tried a chewable oral probiotic last year and didn’t see much change. Maybe the specific 4 strains in this one make the difference for gum health specifically.

Switching to ProvaDent helped with my recurring sensitivity issues. It took a while to kick in, but I’m finally not seeing blood when I floss anymore. Great results so far.

How’s the taste? I can’t stand anything too sweet or overly ‘healthy’ tasting. I prefer a mild mint if possible.

Good to see someone else focusing on the biome. I’ve been telling my sister that nuking everything with alcohol mouthwash is such an old school way of thinking.

Does it help with dry mouth? I’m on some medications that make my mouth feel like a desert, and it usually leads to more cavities.

I’ve been using a basic xylitol spray but this sounds more comprehensive. I’m getting tired of the constant plaque at my checkups.

Do you use this right after brushing or wait a bit? I heard you shouldn’t rinse with anything immediately after using fluoride toothpaste.
