Natural ways I stabilized my hearing and stopped the muffled sounds

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a few things that have genuinely made a difference for my hearing over the last year. I’m 64 now, and for a long time, I just accepted that everything was going to sound like I was underwater. It wasn’t just the volume; it was the clarity. I’d be in a restaurant and couldn’t follow the conversation at all because of the background hum.

First, I started being much stricter about ‘ear breaks.’ If I’m in a noisy environment for more than an hour, I step outside for five minutes of total silence. It sounds simple, but it really helps reduce that end-of-day ear fatigue. I also cut back significantly on sodium and caffeine, which I noticed were making the internal buzzing much worse on humid days.

The biggest shift came when I started focusing on the biological side of things. I did some reading about how our auditory signaling can get ‘noisy’ if the right nutrients aren’t there to support the nerves. I started taking AudiFort (got mine here) about four months ago after seeing a few people in my local walking group mention it. I didn’t expect a miracle overnight, but after about six weeks, the ‘fuzziness’ in my left ear started to clear up. It feels like the signals are just reaching my brain more cleanly now.

I also make sure to use a white noise machine at night to keep my ears from straining in a dead-silent room, which used to make the ringing more obvious. None of this is a ‘cure,’ but combined, these steps have brought back a lot of the sharpness I thought was gone for good. I hope this helps some of you who are feeling as frustrated as I was.

The restaurant thing is the worst. I find myself nodding along even when I haven’t heard a word. Thanks for the tips on the ear breaks, I never thought about the fatigue aspect.

I’ve had a similar experience with AudiFort actually. My brother-in-law gave me a bottle to try and the clarity definitely improved after the first month. It’s subtle but noticeable when watching TV.

How much did you cut your sodium? I love my salty snacks but if it helps with the buzzing I might have to reconsider my diet. I’ve heard others mention the salt connection before.

I tried the white noise thing but it kept my wife awake. We ended up getting a very quiet fan instead which seems to provide just enough background noise for me to ignore the ringing.

To the person asking about sodium—it makes a huge difference for me too. If I have a high-salt dinner, my ears are ringing like crazy by bedtime. It’s worth the sacrifice to cut it out.

I’m 72 and have tried everything under the sun. It’s nice to see a post that isn’t promising a 24-hour fix. Consistency is usually the key with these things, especially at our age.

Great post, very practical. I’m going to try the five-minute silence breaks tomorrow at work. My office is surprisingly loud with the AC and printers.

I can also vouch for AudiFort. It took about two months for me to really notice, but my husband noticed I wasn’t asking him to repeat himself nearly as much. Definitely gave me good results.
