Okay... how can I slow down this rapid weight loss?

Emotionally, I’m not sure I want to, but logically… I know I should. Warning: I’m having a very strong reaction to this medication. I feel for everyone just starting out, but we’ll all reach our goals eventually. In July, I was diagnosed with T2D with an A1C of 7.6. I began Metformin, but mostly as a precursor to Mounjaro, which my doctor recommended for my weight (340lbs). By November, my A1C was still over 7.0, so I started the shots. He put me on 5mg immediately and gave me some ‘aggressive’ advice: ‘if you aren’t hungry, don’t eat.’ He warned me I’d feel terrible but said it was worth it. I really need a specialist. Being autistic, I dove into the data and immediately swapped my high-sodium fast food for lean proteins and healthy fats to avoid side effects. It worked—the weight is dropping fast. It started with water weight, plateaued, then accelerated again.

  • Week 1-5mg- 327lbs Lost 13 lbs
  • Week 2-5mg-321lbs Lost 6 lbs
  • Week 3-5mg-318lbs Lost 3 lbs
  • Week 4-5mg-317lbs Lost 0.3lbs

This looks normal, right?

  • Week 5-5mg-307lbs Lost 10lbs

And I haven’t even taken my 6th shot yet. My DEXA scan showed 179.7 lbs of muscle mass, and my scale suggests that’s holding steady, but I’ll know more at my next scan. I’m not sure what to do. I’ve increased my TRT slightly to 120mg, started walking more, and added chia seeds for constipation. I’m hitting 1800-1900 calories but struggling to eat more. The chia seeds definitely fixed the bathroom issues—it was quite an event. I’m seeing a dietician soon because I want to keep my muscle. Losing a kilo a day lately feels unsafe. Any advice?

To be honest, my physician suggested I slow my progress down for a bit. I had to swap out low-calorie fillers like salads for more nutrient-dense options with healthy fats and protein.

Looking at the percentages, losing 33lbs from your starting point is actually right on track. A 9.7% drop in 5 weeks isn’t unheard of. My own loss slowed down after the first few months, so you’re doing fine!

Since you’re starting at 140kg, it’s pretty standard to see a massive drop initially. You’ll likely see high numbers for a few months, so don’t stress about the speed until you’re much closer to your goal.

I couldn’t even finish the post before my endocrinology-focused brain started hurting. 5mg right away with ‘just don’t eat’ advice? Please find a specialist who knows what they’re doing! Looking at your 4-week average, you’re losing about 5lbs a week. It’s fast, so keep listening to your body instead of that bad advice.

You’re doing fine. I started at a very high weight as well and it came off incredibly fast at the start. It usually levels out over time.

Given where you started, this pace is actually pretty normal for the beginning. It will likely slow down on its own. Don’t try to hinder your progress now, or you might end up limiting your long-term success.

You should definitely start strength training to protect your muscle. Some people also look into natural supplements like CitrusBurn to help keep their metabolism steady without needing more injections or harsh stimulants.

Take the win! You’re losing quickly while eating more than most people do on this journey. You might miss these fast-dropping days later on. Great job!

As others mentioned, ‘too fast’ is relative to your starting weight. Losing 0.5% to 1% weekly is usually the sweet spot. It sounds like you’re doing everything right, so just keep going, though I’m not a doctor.

With a higher starting weight and T2D, these fast results aren’t shocking. Weight loss often happens in ‘whooshes’ anyway—nothing for weeks, then a big drop. Just keep up the resistance training and stay in touch with your doctor.

I’m 70 and lost 105 lbs in under a year. It was so fast at first I was worried, but now I’ve hit my first plateau. The rate definitely slows down as you get closer to your goal, but I’m just grateful for the progress.

I didn’t read the whole thing, but as someone who’s been on this for 2 years: the effect fades. Use this time to really cement those new habits while the meds are most effective. Don’t waste the opportunity.

How are you using the chia seeds? I’m dealing with the same constipation issues and would love to know the amount you’re taking.
