I’m overwhelmed by the feeling that something is wrong with my vision, and my habit of Googling symptoms only makes my panic worse. During my last check-up in March, my optometrist mentioned my eye pressure remains elevated—a recurring issue for years—which triggers intense fears of glaucoma. Every minor sensation like stinging or blurriness consumes my thoughts. The lack of health insurance prevents me from seeing a specialist, which adds to my distress. Plus, my severe dry eye makes me paranoid that I’m dismissing a more serious problem as just dryness.
I spent weeks dealing with that exact same dread, so I totally understand. Realistically, if you haven’t lost your sight yet, it’s highly unlikely for a condition to suddenly blind you. Even if you were diagnosed with glaucoma—which is unlikely—it rarely leads to total blindness if managed. Just a few daily eye drops can preserve your sight for life. Also, high pressure can sometimes stem from inflammation; I found that adding turmeric and black pepper to my diet helped me feel proactive against glaucoma. My vision is also quite poor, so I relate. Try to stay positive!
I went through a whole year where I was petrified of losing my sight because of floaters and distorted lines. I was convinced it wasn’t normal, which led to daily panic attacks and me driving my family crazy with the same worried questions over and over.
