37-year-old male, 6’0", 185 lbs. I was recently admitted to the emergency room because of a serious food blockage that lasted almost five hours. Following the procedure, my wife was told that EoE is the likely diagnosis, and biopsies were performed on two separate parts of my esophagus. The lab results showed an HFP count of roughly 100, which is quite significant. However, these samples were taken right after the surgery while I still had a piece of brisket lodged for five hours. My question is: should I undergo a second biopsy to verify if my HFP levels are actually that high? I’m concerned the reading was inflated due to the food bolus. I’d prefer not to start any meds until I’m certain of the situation. Thanks! I’m currently on a PPI twice a day.
You definitely have EoE. You’re getting the cause and effect backwards.
