Many of us over 50 fall into the trap of just getting stronger glasses every time things get a bit blurry. It’s a common pitfall because it feels like the only solution available, but it often ignores the underlying health of our eyes. Another mistake is relying too heavily on harsh, bright overhead lights, which can actually cause more strain and fatigue over time.
Instead of just reacting to symptoms, we should focus on nourishing the eyes from the inside. A better alternative is prioritizing specific nutrients that support the retina and macula. I’ve found that focusing on AREDs-2 ingredients makes a huge difference in long-term clarity. Personally, I started using iGenics (got mine here) a few months ago, and my night vision has noticeably sharpened. It’s much more effective than just chasing a new lens prescription every single year. We should also consider using soft, indirect lighting and taking regular breaks from digital screens. What do you all think? Are we too quick to just buy new glasses instead of fixing the root cause?

I feel like my optometrist just wants to sell me frames. Every year it’s a “slight adjustment” and $400 out of pocket. It’s frustrating when you don’t feel like the health of the eye is being discussed, just the optics.

Interesting point about the lighting. I’ve been using those high-wattage LEDs everywhere thinking it helped, but my eyes are always burning by 8 PM. I might try switching to warmer tones.

I actually tried iGenics after my sister recommended it for her macular health. It really helped with the glare I was getting during my evening walks. It’s nice to find something that actually works as advertised.
Supplements are fine, but don’t forget about hydration. Dry eyes can make your vision seem way blurrier than it actually is. Drink your water, folks!
I’ll second the mention of iGenics here. My clarity during the day has improved enough that I don’t reach for my readers nearly as often as I used to. The AREDs-2 formula is the real deal.
I’m always a bit wary of supplements. Isn’t a balanced diet with lots of kale and spinach supposed to do the same thing? I try to eat my nutrients rather than pill them.

Night driving is my biggest hurdle. The halos around headlights are terrifying lately. If changing my habits or trying a supplement helps even 10%, I’m in. It’s worth the shot for the safety aspect alone.
It’s definitely a holistic thing. Better light, better nutrients, and less screen time. Glad to see others are looking beyond just the lens strength. We really have to advocate for our own health as we age.
