Swapping my multi-step routine for a single active concentrate

I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of money over the last decade on those 10-step skincare routines and high-end department store creams. Honestly, I was getting tired of the clutter on my vanity and the fact that my skin just looked… okay. Not great, just okay. I was very skeptical about trying yet another serum, especially one that claimed to replace three or four of my existing steps. I really hate wasting money on marketing hype.

A close friend who is 52 and looks incredible convinced me to try a copper peptide serum. She isn’t the type to fall for trends, so I figured it was worth one last shot before I just gave up and accepted the sagging. I was expecting it to be another greasy layer that didn’t do much.

What I noticed first:

  • The texture is much thinner than the heavy creams I was used to.
  • No stinging or redness, which usually happens when I try high-strength anti-aging products.
  • After about two weeks, the “crepiness” under my eyes started looking less pronounced.

The real turning point for me was about a month in. I realized I wasn’t reaching for my heavy night cream or my separate vitamin C serum anymore. My skin felt more “elastic” if that makes sense? It didn’t feel like I was just layering grease on top of dry skin. I decided it was worth continuing because it actually simplified my life and saved me about sixty dollars a month on products that weren’t doing much anyway.

For those of you over 40 dealing with that loss of firmness, has anyone else found that cutting back the number of products actually improved your results?

I’m 46 and I totally agree. I used to use seven products every morning. Now I just use a gentle cleanser, one active serum, and sunscreen. My skin barrier has never been happier.

Is the copper peptide serum you’re using very expensive? I’ve seen some that are $150 and others for $20. Hard to know if the cheap ones even work.

I had the same realization last year. I was over-exfoliating and my face was always pink. Once I stopped the madness and just used one solid concentrate, the texture smoothed out within a month.

I’m still skeptical. I feel like my skin needs the heavy cream at night or I wake up feeling like a dried-out raisin. Maybe it’s the climate I live in?

To DesertLark—it might be the climate, but also check your cleanser. If your cleanser is stripping you, you’ll feel like you need that heavy cream. I switched to a milk cleanser and a peptide serum like the OP mentioned, and I don’t need the heavy tubs of moisturizer anymore. It’s a game changer for the jawline area especially.

Copper peptides are the only thing that helped my neck area. Creams never did a thing.

Can you share how you transitioned? Did you just stop everything cold turkey and start the new serum, or did you phase things out? I’m worried about breaking out if I change too fast.

Less is definitely more as we get older. Too many actives just cause inflammation, and inflammation is what causes the aging in the first place! Glad you found something that works without the clutter.

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been looking at those blue copper serums but wasn’t sure if it was just another fad. Your experience with the undereye crepiness is exactly what I was hoping to hear about.
