Tinnitus vanished after applying oil

My aging father suffered from severe tinnitus in his deaf ear for over a decade, and doctors had no solutions for him. I suggested he try putting Vitamin E oil in his ear canal before sleep. He did this every night and said the ringing decreased almost immediately; after six months, it was entirely gone. He occasionally reapplied it if the noise woke him up at night. He’s been free of it for about a year and a half now. I’m not sure why, but Vitamin E oil worked for him. Update: For those asking, he used liquid Vitamin E oil, not pills. He dropped it into his ear nightly for six months using high-potency oil (25000IU - 7000IU) found at pharmacies or Amazon. The oil is very thick, like syrup. He would lie on his side with the affected ear up and use a full dropper until it felt like it reached the bottom. He’d stay in that position for thirty minutes to let it soak. He says he’s been tinnitus-free for 1.5 years and has almost forgotten he ever had it.

How many drops did he use? Did he feel any relief right after the first time?

This is fascinating, though I’m struggling to believe it’s actually possible.

What brand did you buy? I’m at a point where I’ll try just about anything.

This sounds like some of those old Edgar Cayce remedies.

Could you explain how you discovered this? It’s such a new idea to us that we’re curious to learn more, mostly to make sure there aren’t side effects that could make this unbearable situation even worse. Thanks in advance!

Do you happen to have an Amazon link for the specific oil he used? Thanks!

Years ago, my mother would warm up castor oil and put it in my ear with a cotton ball for earaches. It really seemed to help.

There’s a traditional remedy involving oil from tree stumps that I was always too scared to try, but it seems like using oil for tinnitus isn’t a new concept. People with this condition are willing to try anything since the alternative is so miserable. On a side note, I have a lot of respect for doctors, but I had a kidney problem in the 90s that no one could fix until a classmate suggested a natural seed tea. It cleared out tiny stones and the problem vanished. We shouldn’t dismiss traditional methods in favor of only using chemical drugs.

I’m not trying to push alternative medicine, but I’m from India, where Yoga and Ayurveda are standard. For tinnitus, they recommend a practice called ‘Karna-poorna,’ which basically means filling the ear. It’s a technique mentioned in the ancient Vedas from thousands of years ago.

I’d be worried about the risks. What if filling your ear with oil every night leads to deafness? It’s okay for your dad since he’s already deaf in that ear, but I’m curious to see if anyone else tries it.

According to online sources, there are two kinds of tinnitus: subjective (nerve-related) and objective (physical sounds like blood flow). It affects about 30% of people, usually those with hearing loss, though it can happen to anyone. While there’s no official cure, some find that vitamins help. Vitamin A is stored in the inner ear for proper sound interpretation, B12 deficiency is common in sufferers, and Vitamin E can improve blood flow and oxygen to the ear. Magnesium and Zinc have also been shown to reduce symptoms in some studies.

I gave it a shot for the first time tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed!
