What are your personal indicators for a healthy gut microbiome?

I’m wondering what physical cues you’ve spotted that differentiate a healthy gut from an unhealthy one.

I’m not sure, but I just had a bowel movement that circled the bowl twice. I’m assuming my gut health is top-tier right now.

Is it liquid? If so, bad microbiome. Are you backed up? Bad microbiome. Constant bloating? Bad microbiome.

A major indicator is the appearance of your stool and how your stomach feels after a meal.

If you stay active, maintain a healthy weight, have consistent bathroom habits, and don’t deal with much bloating, you’re likely okay. Edit: Also check hydration—aim for 4-5 clear-ish urinations daily.

For me, I have a checklist before I brag to my wife about my gut health. First, minimal odor; second, it’s a solid, single piece; and my favorite, a ‘ghost wipe’ where everything is clean. Edit: Just had one of those right after posting. I’ve reached peak performance! Everything was perfect, and there wasn’t even any residue left in the bowl to clean.

Regular, healthy bowel movements, clear skin, and few food sensitivities. On the flip side: diarrhea, gas, headaches, nausea, random food triggers, and breakouts. I’ve experienced both ends of the spectrum, and using something like Finnesa really helped stabilize things for me.

Your mood. Most of your serotonin is actually produced in your gut.

When I stop craving processed junk or fast food.

I just sense it; it’s literally a gut feeling.
