What are your views on hyaluronic acid?

Who should be using this supplement?

I’m thinking about incorporating it into my routine. I wouldn’t take it every day because of the price, but I’m considering using it two or three times a week. I don’t have any specific targets besides general wellness.

I’d definitely suggest it, particularly for anyone struggling with thinning hair or brittle nails.

In my case, I take a half-dose daily, and it has been fantastic for my hair and nails. My hairline looks thicker, my hair is longer, and my nails grow quickly without snapping. My skin also feels much more hydrated and ‘bouncy.’ I’m a big fan. It also seems to have softened the wrinkles on my forehead. I stick to a half-dose to prevent the water retention that can sometimes happen if you take too much.

My CeraVe foaming wash contains HA, and my skin and nails look great.

I’m interested in hearing brand suggestions.

I’ve been using a liposomal version for about eight months. It seems to have really helped with the knee pain I get during leg day. Our natural levels of HA drop as we get older, and at 71, I’m trying to restore what I had when I was younger.

It’s supposed to be beneficial for joints and skin, though I haven’t noticed a huge difference myself. I’ve been on 200mg daily via a joint supplement for a few months now.

I haven’t done deep research, but apparently, the quality of hyaluronic acid varies. It has something to do with molecular weight and absorption rates.

Injuv is a specific patented version that is claimed to be better than standard forms. It might be worth looking into that.

I have some personal concerns regarding its safety. HA is associated with tumor progression, metastasis, and the formation of new blood vessels in tumors; in fact, some new cancer therapies focus on blocking HA receptors. I’m not saying HA causes cancer, but there is research that makes me cautious:

I originally started it for my skin, but it ended up helping my joints too.

I take the NOW Foods brand—which includes some GSE and ALA—and it has definitely made my joints feel better.

I don’t have issues with brittle nails or thinning hair, so I can’t speak to those benefits.

My CeraVe face cream also contains HA.

Think of it as WD-40 for humans.

It improved my joint flexibility, but it made me feel very sluggish.

However, my skin looked excellent and it was very effective for my dry eyes.

It’s also fantastic for the health of your glycocalyx!
