What simple habits help stop foot fungus returning?

Hey everyone! I’ve been lurking here for a while and finally felt like sharing something that actually helped me turn a corner. For years, I struggled with that itchy, peeling skin between my pinky toes, and it always seemed to flare up right when I wanted to wear sandals. It’s so frustrating and honestly a bit embarrassing when you’re at the beach or a friend’s house.

What I realized was that even after a shower, my feet weren’t actually dry. Towels can be a bit thick to get into those tight gaps. Now, I use a dedicated small hand towel just for my feet, and I even use my hair dryer on the cool setting for about thirty seconds. It sounds a bit extra, I know! But keeping that area bone-dry before putting on socks has made such a massive difference in how my skin feels.

I’d love to hear if any of you have little “overlooked” habits like this that helped your recovery. We’re all in this together!

The hair dryer trick is a game changer. I started doing that last winter and haven’t had a single flare-up since. People underestimate how much moisture stays trapped between the toes.

Do you wash the foot towel every single time you use it? I’m worried about cross-contamination if I reuse it the next morning.

I actually started using Kerassentials Serum a few months ago after a similar tip about drying my feet. It’s been great for keeping the skin around my nails looking healthy and building up some resistance to the usual itchiness I get in the summer.

Cotton socks are the enemy. Switch to merino wool or bamboo blends. They actually wick the sweat away instead of letting your foot sit in a damp puddle all day at work.

I’ve started keeping a pair of flip flops in my gym bag specifically for the shower. Never letting my bare feet touch a public locker room floor again.

DryFeetDaryl, I do the same thing! I also make sure to spray my shoes with an antifungal spray every Friday night so they have the whole weekend to air out and dry completely.

Does anyone else find that their diet affects this? I noticed when I cut back on sugar, the skin issues on my feet seemed to clear up much faster.

I’m going to try the hair dryer thing tomorrow. I usually just rush out of the shower and put my work boots on immediately. No wonder I’m struggling lol.

Great advice. Also, remember to clip your nails straight across. It helps prevent ingrowns which can sometimes lead to secondary skin infections if you’re not careful.

The small towel idea is smart. I’ve been using paper towels to dry between my toes to make sure I’m not spreading anything, but it feels a bit wasteful.

Ironing your socks might sound crazy, but the heat kills off any remaining spores that the washing machine might have missed. My grandma taught me that one.

Thanks for the tips everyone. This sub is so much more helpful than just reading generic medical articles.
