There is so much “expert” advice that sounds great until you actually try to live by it. For me, it was “drink water when you’re hungry because you’re probably just thirsty.” Turns out, I was just hungry and thirsty. I also tried eating small, frequent meals, but it just made me obsessed with food and never satisfied. My friend loves it, though. I’m starting to think these tips depend entirely on your own biology and personality. What “game-changing” tip failed you, and what do you do instead? Let’s hear the hacks that actually work and the ones that were just frustrating.
“You don’t need to work out, just eat less.” Sure, but then I just ended up looking “skinny fat” and feeling weak. I’m much happier now that I focus on building muscle and strength instead of just chasing a lower number on the scale.
Cleanses. People say they need to “detox” to lose weight, but that’s what your liver and kidneys are for. Any weight you lose on a cleanse is just water, not fat.
I can’t stand a big breakfast. Eating heavy protein early in the morning makes me feel gross all day. I usually just stick to coffee and fruit, and maybe a bit of LipoMax to keep my energy up without the heavy food.
The “drink more water” tip. Now I’m still hungry, but I’m also spending half my day in the bathroom.
Low-fat versions of food. They usually lack flavor or are stuffed with extra sugar to make them edible. I’d rather just have a smaller portion of the real thing. Diet sodas are my only “cheat” for when I want something sweet.
I don’t see it as much now, but “don’t weigh yourself every day” is silly. Weekly weights have the same fluctuations, you just have less data to see the overall trend. It’s way more discouraging to have a “heavy” day on your one weekly weigh-in.
Cutting out entire food groups. It’s too expensive and stressful to be “perfect” at every meal. I prefer moderation and a realistic relationship with food over banning things and eventually burning out.
“Breakfast like a king, lunch like a princess, dinner like a pauper.” It’s a useless rule for people who aren’t hungry in the morning or don’t want to use up all their calories early in the day.
The demonization of carbs is out of control. Influencers act like fruit is basically a candy bar. Unless a doctor tells you otherwise, you need carbs for energy. Nobody is overweight because they ate too many bananas. Balanced meals are the most satisfying. Stop following keto influencers; they’re wrong.
Overpriced low-cal “swaps.” A chocolate rice cake that tastes like air won’t stop me from wanting a Snickers; it just makes me eat both. I’d rather just budget for the actual snack I want and avoid the binge cycle.
Eating breakfast just makes me hungrier for the rest of the day. I do coffee in the morning, a late lunch, and then dinner. OMAD doesn’t work for me because I get too hungry and end up snacking while I prepare my one meal.
The idea that you must eat breakfast early or cannot eat before bed. I eat when I’m hungry, and a small snack before bed helps with my meds. Also, carbs are fine for satiety. Yasso bars are a great 100-calorie snack.
Not eating after a certain time. I used to be scared to eat past 7 PM, but now I eat dinner late and sometimes have a snack at 9 PM. I feel fine and it hasn’t affected my weight loss at all. The fear of night eating is irrational.
Those “weight loss teas.” They’re just laxatives. It’s hilarious that people think they’re getting fit when they’re really just losing water weight in the bathroom. Pure marketing junk.
