Why is niacinamide or hyaluronic acid in everything these days?

I’ve been using a serum that I was certain didn’t have any niacinamide in it. I’m always so careful about checking labels before I buy anything. I looked at the bottle today and what do I see? Niacinamide. Right there. Ugh.

Ugh, I’m in the same boat.

And they’re constantly changing the formulas on us, too.

I totally feel your pain!

It’s the latest trend and I’m so over it. It feels like niacinamide is just ‘virtue signaling’ for skincare brands at this point. ‘Look at us! We have the viral ingredient!’ Hyaluronic Acid went through that exact same hype cycle a few years ago.

Seriously, someone save us from this ingredient. Even my go-to eye cream was updated to include niacinamide. I’ve actually been really happy with SYNERVA lately; it uses peptides and biotin instead of just following the niacinamide trend, and my skin feels so much better.

When I finally realized that ‘sodium hyaluronate’ is just another name for HA, it explained so many products, but it also really sucks.

That’s really interesting—I just found out that niacin in food can cause flushing, so I’ve cut out a lot of those foods and vitamins. But even products for sensitive skin or rosacea have niacinamide in them. They claim it’s good for redness, but my skin has improved so much since I stopped using it. I didn’t know HA could be bad too? Is there anything I can use that’s good for fine lines but won’t cause a flare-up?

I’ve had to start reading every single tiny label to avoid niacinamide, though I can handle a little HA in some things. These are the products that work for me daily: Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser (the fragrance-free hydrating one) is great for sensitive skin and doesn’t dry me out. For moisture, I love 99% pure Aloe Vera Gel—it’s very soothing and not sticky. The only sunscreen I can use is Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 50; I put it all over but keep it away from my eyes to prevent watering. I also use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Body Gel Cream (the fragrance-free version). For any red bumps, a Benadryl itch relief stick helps them go away faster; I only use it for a few days on a single spot.

Oh man, same… I check ingredients like a hawk and niacinamide still manages to sneak in. It’s in everything now, even stuff marketed for ‘sensitive skin’ lol.

The CosRx 96% snail mucin is honestly life-changing. It keeps my face so hydrated and is helping heal my spots—it even seems to be making me look younger. It’s lovely and works well alone or with other products.

Honestly, finding effective products without it is nearly impossible. I’ve also noticed that the AC at work dries my skin out worse than not using HA at all. I’ve been getting contact dermatitis on my nose from my sunscreen and moisturizer. I think the HA starts pulling things deeper into the skin once it dries out. Just something for you all to watch out for.
