I struggled with itchy feet for years and nothing seemed to stick until I changed my hygiene game.
I started spraying down my shower floor with a bleach solution after every use to prevent reinfection. It turns out I was probably just picking the fungus back up from the damp tiles every single morning.
I also switched to washing all my socks and bath mats on the hottest setting. Finally, I applied terbinafine cream for a full two weeks after the skin looked clear. It hasn’t come back in six months.

The shower floor thing is so real. We focus so much on the feet but forget where we stand while cleaning them.

What kind of antifungal laundry additive did you use? I’ve been doing the hot water wash but I’m not sure if it’s enough for my gym socks.

I had a similar experience but I used a UV light sanitizer for my shoes too. If you don’t kill the spores in your footwear, you’re just putting your clean feet back into a petri dish. Also, make sure you are drying between your toes with a separate towel or a hair dryer on the cool setting. Moisture is the enemy!

Be careful with bleach every day, it can be pretty harsh on some shower finishes. I use a specialized antifungal spray that’s a bit gentler but still does the trick.

The ‘two weeks after it looks clear’ rule is the most important part. Most people stop as soon as it stops itching and that’s why it always returns.

Did you find that the hot water wash ruined your socks quickly? I’m worried about my expensive wool ones.
