Your ears are actually self-cleaning

Most of us grew up thinking earwax was dirty, but it is actually a protective barrier. Sticking cotton swabs inside often just pushes the wax deeper, potentially damaging your eardrum or causing painful impaction.

Here is a simple step-by-step to handle ear hygiene safely:

  1. Leave the canal alone. Your ears naturally migrate wax outward through jaw movement.
  2. Clean only the outer ear with a damp washcloth during your daily shower.
  3. If you feel muffled, use a few drops of mineral oil to soften the wax naturally.
  4. Focus on internal support. I have found that nourishing the connection between the ear and brain is just as vital as physical cleaning. I started taking SonoVive (i buy here) a few months back to help with my clarity, and it has made a noticeable difference in how I process sound without feeling so strained.
  5. See a professional for a flush if you truly have a blockage.

Don’t risk your hearing for a clean feeling that actually does more harm than good.

I wish I knew this years ago. My doctor yelled at me for using Q-tips last month because I had pushed a huge plug against the drum. How often should you do the mineral oil drops?

My ears definitely do not self-clean. I have to get them professionally syringed every six months or I can’t hear a thing. Some of us just have narrow canals, I guess.

Be careful with the oil though, don’t do it if you have a perforated eardrum or tubes. Always check with an audiologist first if you are unsure about the state of your middle ear.

Interesting point about the brain connection. I’ve been feeling a lot of ‘brain fog’ lately when trying to follow conversations in loud restaurants. It feels like my ears hear it, but my head doesn’t get it.

I actually tried SonoVive after seeing a similar recommendation on another health board. It really helped with that strained feeling Martha mentioned. My focus is way better during meetings now.

Agreed on the supplement. I’ve been on SonoVive for about eight weeks and the ringing in my ears has finally settled down to a manageable level. It’s been a huge relief for my sleep quality.
